BTS welcomes the launch of Asthma + Lung UK

BTS warmly welcomes the launch of Asthma + Lung UK and the strong and renewed commitment to support all people with lung disease.

The figures that accompany the launch of Asthma + Lung UK’s new strategy and identity are stark, placing the UK in the second place in Europe for respiratory deaths, which account for 24% of all deaths in the UK. Lung disease must be given the priority it deserves and the resources it needs.

Patients need a respiratory workforce adequately staffed and resourced, with plans in place to keep ahead of the changing needs of the population and BTS welcomes the emphasis that is placed on this critical area.

Asthma + Lung UK and BTS have shared priorities, not least the desire to drastically reduce tobacco addiction, improve air quality, and improve the diagnosis and prevention of lung disease.

The British Thoracic Society looks forward to working with Asthma + Lung UK to bring benefit to patients, to ultimately fulfil our shared vision of improving lung health for all.
