Meritorious Service Award 2019

Professor Onn Min Kon was today honoured with the BTS Meritorious Service Award, for being in the forefront of several significant areas of work for patient benefit.

The award comes in recognition of Professor Kon’s contributions to the Society’s work, and his tireless efforts to promote quality and excellence in TB management within Public Health England, NHSE and the Specialised Commissioning arenas.

BTS has benefitted greatly from Professor Kon’s efforts, which included developing the robust system for the MDRTB Clinical Advice Service, chairing the Tuberculosis SAG and leadership of the Joint TB Committee. The Society has been fortunate to be able to rely on his singular expertise and his inclusive and responsive leadership throughout the years.

Professor Onn Min Kon is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute of Imperial College London, and Head of Service for Tuberculosis at the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. He has been an invited speaker to many national and international events, including the Royal College of Ophthalmologists conference and the Indian Uveitis Society, and given several lectures on ocular manifestations of TB.

He is currently sitting on the Steering Committee of the international Collaborative Ocular Tuberculosis Study (COTS) study group and chairs the UK Joint TB Committee and the BTS MDR TB Clinical Advice Service Steering Committee.

More on the BTS Meritorious Service Award

The BTS Nominations Committee makes one award each year to an individual who has provided a service to the Society far above that which one would normally expect for their position/role, often over a far longer period than would normally be the case.
