BTS Clinical Statement on Community Acquired Pneumonia in people with Learning Disability and BTS Clinical Statement on Aspiration Pneumonia

Launch of the British Thoracic Society guidance on the BTS Clinical Statement on Community Acquired Pneumonia in people with Learning Disability and BTS Clinical Statement on Aspiration Pneumonia.

In this joint BTS/NHS England webinar, Dr Julian Legg, lead author of the BTS Clinical Statement on Community Acquired Pneumonia in people with Learning Disability, and Professor John Simpson, lead author of the BTS Clinical Statement on Aspiration Pneumonia, gave an overview of the new guidance launched in Thorax and on the BTS website here.

The session detailed the clinical practice points of each Pneumonia Statement, which offer practical ways to address prevention, diagnosis and management.

Chaired by Dr Martin Allen, National Clinical Director for Respiratory, the session also featured contributions from Maz, a lady with lived experience of pneumonia and a case study from Consultant Respiratory Physician, Dr Ingrid Du Rand, and Speech and Language Therapist Maddy Roberts, on how they helped to reduce aspiration pneumonia morbidity and mortality rates in care homes. Questions were led by Professor Andre Strydom, Professor in Intellectual Disabilities, Kings College London.

This webinar is suitable for a broad range of members of the multi-disciplinary respiratory team.  This would include those from community physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, dietetics, specialist nurses, primary care, as well as other related healthcare professionals.
