Advanced Practice in Pulmonary Rehabilitation 2025
Supporting education in pulmonary rehabilitation for all members of the multi-professional team remains a priority for BTS. We offer two separate online courses annually which cater for distinct audiences. They are aligned with national standards, including the BTS Clinical Statement on Pulmonary Rehabilitation: https://www.brit-thoracic.org.uk/quality-improvement/clinical-statements/pulmonary-rehabilitation/
- The Fundamentals of Pulmonary Rehabilitation (for those who are new to PR)
- Advanced Pulmonary Rehabilitation (for those with some years’ experience working in PR)
The Advanced Practice in Pulmonary Rehabilitation short course draws on current best evidence that underpins advanced practice in PR and is aimed at a multi-professional audience with some years’ experience of working in PR and before attending this course we recommend that delegates have completed the fundamentals to PR course we offer:
Fundamentals of Pulmonary Rehabilitation (July) | British Thoracic Society | Better lung health for all
The course will run virtually over 2 days, with the following learning objectives:
- To enable delegates to demonstrate their understanding of alternative models of PR delivery.
- To understand and apply appropriate strategies to augment the benefits of PR, including ambulatory oxygen therapy, balance retraining and intermittent exercise.
- To understand and apply appropriate strategies for rehabilitation for multimorbidity.
- To enable delegates to apply their understanding of how to effectively deliver formal education sessions for PR remotely.
The course will offer a blend of teaching methods including live presentation, interactive group-based case studies and discussion, and some limited pre-recorded content. The course is delivered by an expert faculty who will be available for Q&A sessions across the 2 days.
